New Calendar on www.mymccb.org

New and Improved!

I wanted to make you aware that I've added a new Google calendar feature to our web site. This new calendar will allow me to make easier updates to our schedule and provide more more information. www.mymccb.org/concertdates.htm if you click on a calendar entry, it will pop up a balloon with info about that date. Within the balloon, there will be a link labeled "more details" if you click this link, you'll see a new screen and to the right of "location" you'll see a link for a "map". Assuming I've entered a street address, a google map will show exactly where the event will take place.

In Addition to all of this, if you have your own google gmail account (they're free in case you want one) you can add the MCCB public calendar to you own calendar and all of the dates in our calendar will show up right along side your events. There are many other public calendars that you can add such as Bengals schedules, Reds,.....

Congratulations / Thanks

We would like to congratulate Stephen Brown (Clarinet), Kristen Macke (alto sax) and Bubba Kraus (tuba) on their acceptance of council positions. We'd also like to thank Barb Wagner (tuba), Will Black (tuba), and Marilyn Bourquein (french horn) for their service to the band. It's great to see so many new faces willing to help keep the band running smoothly.

Christmas Concert

12/2/2007 2:00pm in the Theater at the College of Mount St. Joseph.

Free admission, and join us for refreshments after the concert.

The band would like to thank Brian Patrick for once again joining us in narrating "Twas the Night Before Christmas"

Band Members:

Be prepared to begin the pre concert practice by 1:00pm.
Remember to wear white shirt/blouse (dark tie for the men) and black pants/skirt/dress.
Please also remember to bring snacks for the reception after the concert.

For all off site concerts the same dress code applies and you'll need to bring your own music stand.

I hope you and your family have a merry Christmas!

Reminder: Rehearsals resume tonight 1-15-2007

Now that the holiday's are behind us, it's time to get to work on the spring concert. Even though the college doesn't have classes today, we'll begin rehearsals this evening. Please make every effort to attend and be sure to bring your folder. We need to collect the music from the previous concert, and it will help immensely if all music gets turned in at the same time.

See you this evening at 7:15 (hint: get there early so that we can start at 7:30)

There was a scheduling conflict where they had us listed as performing next Monday instead of tonight.

Kenny will leave copies of our CD at the college music office if you would like to pick yours up before we meet again in January.

Monday August 14th, 2006 we start the 2006-2007 season. Time to dust off your instrument and get yourself ready for another great year. The link below will take you to Yamaha's web site where they show you how to properly maintain your instrument.

Please make every effort to attend this first practice to make sure you get a copy of the music we'll be performing. Also remember to bring in your memebership dues as soon as you can. Dues are $35 per year or $20 per semester and should be paid to Mary Artmayer our treasurer.

Summer council meeting notes

Council met at Kenny’s July-1 house to discuss various topics:

Financial:
Mary gave the council an update of current account balance with list of income and expenses since January.
Council discussed the need to get member dues collected in a timely manner. In previous years, members have paid their dues slowly between August and December (if at all) and this causes numerous trips to the Mount by Mary to deposit the money.   We will ask the member to be sure to have dues paid by 10/2/2006.

Library filing:
The music library sorting and filing is nearly complete. We’ll need to stress to the band member the necessity of returning their music the rehearsal just after a concert to avoid future filing nightmares. We’ll periodically recruit help to perform sorting and filing to keep the library as complete as possible.

Summer mailings:
Kenny needs to put together the summer mailing in order to have it sent by the middle of July. He plans to have the news letter printed and folded by this coming Thursday 7/6. Anyone interested can show up that the Mount to help stuff envelopes. The mailing is to inform everyone of our upcoming schedule and to solicit donations. An additional mailing will be created to send our concert dates to our list of retirement communities so that they can plan ahead for outings to the Mount.

Farewell to Tony Strassell

I would like to mention that after 13 years in the percussion section (and several years on band council) Tony Strassell has decided to leave the band. Tony has a lot going on in his life as he's taking over ownership of Westside Auto Service. For the last 13 years, Tony has been getting to practice before everyone else to setup the percussion equipment and usually sets up many of the chair on stage. He also has hauled equipment to all of our offsite concerts. People like Tony have made this an incredible group to be a part of. Thanks Tony for your dedication and friendship throughout the years. You'll be sorely missed. Hopefully you'll come to your senses in a year or so and decide to come back (:

If you miss Tony, you can always break something on your car and take it to West Side Auto to help Tony's business prosper.

MCCB concert at Keehner Park, West Chester, OH

The band performed a concert for a small crowd at Keehner Park. This was an unadvertised event and hopefully we'll be able to perform here again for a slightly larger audience. The weather turned out to be perfect, though many members wanted to switch places with the audience so that they could keep warm in the sun. This concert concludes our 20th season. We'll begin rehearsals again in August. In the meantime you can hear many of our performers throughout the summer as they play with the UC Community Band.

Welcome to the MCCB blog (short for web log). This space will be used to provide updates on the band's activities.

Band Council election results
5/8/2006 We held elections to vote for 3 open council positions. I would like to thank all of the folks who were willing to accept nominations. It's so nice to belong to a group of such talented and devoted people. The nominees were Will Black (tuba), Gary Sewell (french horn), Marilyn Bourquein (french horn), Sara Sicking (flute), Barb Wagner (tuba), and Mike Kleimeyer (saxophone).
Barb Wagner, Will Black, and Marilyn Bourquein were the winners of this year's council election. These three will join Mary Artmayer, Bill Gilbert and Tim Jones who will remain on council.
